Acknowledging that any successful student is an engaged student, our mission is to not only provide our students with comprehensible, engaging training, but to inspire each learner to create within themselves the possibility of a safe occupational future.
Professional Training Associates, Inc. (PTA) is a partnership-based small business formed in 1998 by like-minded safety & health training professionals who felt the need to create a company that could develop and deliver training curriculum, freely, in a manner that was not possible under previous business restraints. In April of that year, PTA with assistance from the Steel Valley Authority began operations at 1 Library Place in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. Quickly outgrowing its original space, PTA moved its current training center to the historic Stores Building location at the former US Steel Duquesne Works.
Our company provides environmental and safety training and program development services to a broad-based clientele in the industrial, commercial, manufacturing, construction, consulting, government and educational sectors. PTA provides a wide variety of courses including Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint, Hazwoper, DOT Hazmat, IATA, RCRA, Confined Space Entry, Construction Safety Outreach and Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA). Many of these courses are conducted at our Training Center in Duquesne; however, PTA routinely conducts standard and customized courses on site at our clients facilities or online using our virtual classroom.
PTA maintains a 5,000+ SF facility for its training center at 46C S. Linden Street in Duquesne, PA. The facility accommodates two spacious lecture rooms located on the east and west sides of the training center. The 660 SF east lecture room is set up for smaller classes up to 12 to 15 students where each student has his/her own desk space and the entire space can be easily configured on-the-fly to facilitate didactic learning tasks. The much larger 1,800 SF west lecture room can comfortably fit 35 students with perimeter space used for hands-on activities and other workshops such as using state-of-the-art equipment such as Kontrol Cubes®, air filtration devices and manometers. One unique characteristic of our facility is the 500+ SF hands-on demonstration/ construction simulation area which is adjacent to the lecture room. This area is equipped with materials that allow students to build construction control zones for the purposes of regulatory compliance and Best Management Practices such as those used in asbestos abatement and infection control. Students get actual experience constructing containments and decontamination chambers (anteroom) and donning personal protective equipment (disposable suits and respirators). Two additional spaces in the training center can be used for lecture and hands-on activities if necessary. The training center hosts ample free parking; is handicapped accessible and is equipped with an elevator and two fire exits. Lavatories for women and men are centrally located.
